Im about to buy a Simmons 8×30 waterproof 2mp camera binoculars. Any suggestions?
noelle asked:
I was thinking about buying this to capture cool surfing pics and waterfalls. I already have a really nice digital camera but its not waterproof. I know the first # = maginification and the second # = brightness as measured by the exit lens in mm- but what exactly does this mean? Will the pictures be zoomed in and clear? Can it take still shots of a moving object without being blurry? How good is the quality of Simmons and/or the pics? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

I don’t own one of these, but already I see some problems with it from the specs the manufacture lists and the pictures of the binoculars. I can see that the camera part of it doesn’t even use the binocular lenses themselves. So theres no way that what you see through the lenses will match the picture you take. It also means no zoom. This thing is a novelty item at best.
I entirely agree with the 1st reponder. You will be very disappointed with these once you purchase them. Save your money. It is unfortunate that there are not more quality waterproof cameras available, but one thing to keep in mind is that if water gets on the lens of the camera waterproof or not, your pictures will be unusable.
I do have a suggestion for you to consider. That is to consider the Canon Powershot s2. With the 12x zoom image stablized lens you can be far enough away from the surfers and waterfalls that there will be no problem of getting the camera wet. Kodak makes a very similar camera. Fastest shutter speed is 1/3200 which should stop your action cold.
