Digital Camera Binoculars For 2010

Digital camera binoculars are a godsend for any bird watcher who has ever spotted a rare bird, only to have it fly away by the time the camera was zoomed in properly. Since these devices function as both a high powered pair of binoculars, once you are zoomed in on your target you can snap pictures until your heart is content. Here are the top five models for 2010.

The Bushnell Compact 8×30 Instant Replay 11-8325 offers a lot of bang for your buck with a 5 mega-pixel camera and the ability to take video with instant replay. The six times digital zoom will help you get right up close with your target no matter how far away you are and with the ability to take three picture burst shots on the fly, you will never miss the perfect opportunity. This model of Bushnell retails for $299, which is not bad for all of the features.

If you are looking for something a little more cost effective, the Bushnell Image View 8×30 Roof Prism Binoculars are probably your next best choice, as they have a decent 3.2 mega-pixel camera and can fit very nicely into your pocket. With 16MBs of internal memory and an SD slot, you can save all manner of pictures and view them later with the flip top LCD screen. The Bushnell Image View 8×30 Roof Prism Binocular retails for $222.

For a middle ground between the two pairs above, the Barska Point N’ View 8×32 4.0 MP Digital Camera Binoculars are a great choice, sitting at a comfortable $204 and offering a 4 mega-pixel camera with a four times digital zoom. While these don’t zoom as well as the Instant Replay Bushnell model, you will get better camera performance for a better price.

The Barska Point N’ View 8×22 0.3 MP VGA Digital Camera Binoculars are the little brother to the first Barska model and offer slightly fewer features for about fifty dollars cheaper. The camera is only 3 mega-pixels and the screen is a VGA display instead of LCD, but it is an overall great starter set of binoculars.

The Galileo 8×22 with 2.1 MegaPixel Digital Camera Binocular is a true starter model, retailing at around $70. It will not break the bank, and the 2.1 mega-pixel camera has less features that what you would find on higher quality models, but it will get the job done and introduce you to the world of digital camera binoculars. The Galileo has the most rugged construction of all five models and its made to take a beating, which is a welcome trade off for the rough traveler.

All of these models are designed with the digital photographer in mind, with external SD slots for expansive storage. This means you can take as many pictures as you have an SD card to hold, with great quality and you will not have to worry about losing your subject in the process of scrambling for your old digital camera. If you start out with a basic model, you will more than likely love it enough to upgrade to a more feature rich model soon enough.

The Best Digital Camera Binoculars Reviews For 2009

Here a good article on some of the top digital camera binoculars for 2009. As you continue to read you will see that the Bushnell Image View 8×21 Binocular and Barska Point ‘N View 4.0MP 8×32mm Digital Camera Binocular on top of the list for quality binoculars.

Stay tuned in January for 2010’s top 10 list of digital camera binoculars.

There’s nothing that sounds cooler to a gadget geek, then digital camera binoculars. They have that ultra slick James Bond type feel going for them. Or like something Batman would have in his utility belt. While that all may sound pretty cool, this type of binoculars really do have a very practical utilitarian side to them. Imagine how much easier it is for bird watchers, to get a rare glimpse of that red breasted whatever bird through their binoculars, and then click a button and have it captured. Without ever having to reach for their digital camera, and risk their target flying away. Sports fans are another obvious group that would enjoy a gift like this. Especially those watching from the cheap sets at their favorite sporting event.

Here’s a few quick reviews of the more popular binoculars with a digital camera built in.

Bushnell Image View 8×21 Binocular w/VGA camera

These Busnell binoculars sport a pretty decent image clarity, for the price. If you happen to be an Apple Mac user, you’ll want to steer clear of these, as they’re not totally compatible. They go for around $50 or a little more on many of the online shopping sites. They provide the flexibility of taking both still photographs, or video. This is a great binocular camera for the casual user, but the more serious bird watching type, may want to spend a little more money. Specifically, take a look at the last digcam binoculars (From Barska) in this review. It uses a standard USB connector to upload pictures and videos taken to your computer.

BinoCatch 4×28 Digital Binoculars w/Built-In Digital Camera/Camcorder

These usually go for about $50, but I’ve seen them in the $20 price range as well. A bit of a toy set, but something that may be fun for the kids, or maybe a one time usage. You get a pretty good software bundle with it for the price. ArcSoft Photoimpression, My DSC, and PCCam are all included that alone makes it worth a few bucks. The formfactor construction is a little on the light side. The plasctic used could have been better, and you’ll have to treat this one with a little care because of it. You do, however get 4×28 magnification, video capture, and a few extras. It’s kind of 50% camera, and 50% binoculars.

Barska Point ‘N View 4.0MP 8×32mm Binocular

This 4MP version is a big improvement over prior versions that were 2MP. The flip up LCD screen is a nice feature as well. It hides away when your just using the binoculars, but is readily available, when you need to take some quick pictures or videos. It’s often difficult to find a good digital camera, and good binoculars in one package, but Barska seems to have found the right blend. It’s far nicer than the Vivitar digital camera binoculars I was looking at previously. An optional SD card can be used with these binoculars.
